Two big trade centers - the Mall of Plovdiv and Plaza Burgas - have been finished since the beginning of the year. Their area is respectively 20,000 and 26,000 sq m. Thus, the total area of functioning shopping centers in Bulgaria reaches 233,460 sq m, which is a 24.54% increase compared to 2008.

Respectively, the index for trade areas in the malls for each 1000 people of the population is 32 sq m compared to the end of 2008 when it was 25 sq m, reveals a report by FOROS national real estate company. The report presents a summary of trade sites in Bulgaria for the first half of 2009.

Several other malls and smaller trade centers have been constructed in the country.

Meanwhile, the number of frozen or postponed projects has increased due to the fall of the macro economic indexes and the lack of conditions for loans. Among them are: Europe Park, Sofia’s Acropolis, Tsarigradski Mall, J.L.S Mall of Sofia, Grant Gallery in the coastal city of Burgas, Litos I build Mall of Pazardzhik, two Malls of Kazanlak, etc.
