Plovdiv: Two-room apartments in the centre and the upscale Karshiyaka district have topped the property market in the southern city of Plovdiv in 2008, showed the annual analysis of Europolis, an international company active in realty, project development and real estate management.

The company’s estimates showed that almost all segments of the Bulgarian property market surged by a 15 to 20% year-on-year in spite of the stagnation spawned by the global financial turbulence.

Real estate prices are not falling but demand is waning for office areas, the company said. The housing property market powered ahead having picked up an average of 15% so far in the year.

Despite the recent boom in issued building permits for new residential and office buildings, second-home and third-home demand is ebbing away on the back of more stringent bank funding requirements and a general downtrend in property prices.
