Kresna

The town of Kresna is located in the Kresna Gorge on the main road Sofia – Kulata. The Kresna gorge is picturesque and narrow valley of the Struma river, which goes through rocky and steep banks.
The Kresna Gorge, which is 17 km in length and very narrow, is an area of outstanding biodiversity and landscape value. The Gorge is also classified as an Important Bird Area, according to the criteria of Bird Life International. is defined as one of the most important areas for protection of the biodiversity in Bulgaria too - more than 450 plant species, many species of butterflies and moths, reptiles and amphibians. The “Tissata” Reserve, also part of the Kresna Gorge, is a site of global conservation importance representative for the Mediterranean zone.

Very interesting are the Kresnenski mould pyramids that are similar to those in Melnik.

There are some small hotels in Kresna.
