Bulgarian Football Union
Bulgarian Football Union was founded on June 27, 1985 in Sofia. BFU has been a member of F.I.F.A. since 1924 and of U.E.F.A. since 1954. It is a successor of the Bulgarian Football Federation (1962-1985), Republican Football Section (1948-1962), Central Football Committee (1945-1948) and the Bulgarian National Sport Federation (1923-1945).

Currently, 534 football clubs are regular members of the union. Thirty-two of them are professional football clubs, registered under the Trade Law and participants in the Supreme Group and the Second Professional Group.

Five hundred and two amateur clubs participate in the Amateur Football League and the regional A and B football groups. All clubs (professional and amateur) participate in the groups for children and youth.

BPFL was created in the summer of 1991 after consultations between presidents of some of biggest bulgarian football clubs. In begining (to 1993) at head of BPFL there are two presidents - Valentin Mihov and Tomas Lafchis. From 1993 to 1995 president is Tomas Lafchis. After him to 1996 president is Zapryan Zapryanov and from 1996 to present (2004) it's president is Valentin Mihov.
