Albena Denkova and Maxim Staviyski
Albena Denkova and Maxim Staviyski teamed up in 1996 after Albena's former partner, Hristo Nikolov, retired. Denkova and Staviyski, who won the bronze at the 2003 World Championships, are the first Bulgarian skaters to medal at this event.
The team relocated to Russia in the fall of 2000 to train near Moscow under coach Alexei Gorshkov and choreographer Sergei Petukhov.
The team recently won their second consecutive silver medal at the 2004 European Championships. Earlier this season, they placed second at Skate Canada, first at both Trophee Lalique and NHK Trophy, and second at the Grand Prix Final.
25.03.2006 - WORLD CHAMPIONS
The ice dancers own all of their country's medals at worlds. They added gold Friday (25.03.06) night to their previous silver and bronze, edging Canada's Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon, and Americans Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto, the Olympics silver winners.
President Georgi Parvanov: "Your success will be written down in gold letters in the history of Bulgarian sports. With your perseverance and strong will, you proved your undoubted qualities as athletes and unquestionably took the place you deserved long ago with your mastery and artistry."
Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev: "Congratulations, champions! I congratulate you for your mastery, will and purposefulness that helped you win the highest honour for every athlete - a gold medal at World Championships. In the hearts of Bulgarian you have been champions since long ago."

Bulgaria's figure skating dance couple Albena Denkova and Maxim Staviski are the new world champions at thr World Figure Skating Championships 2007
The duo defended their title for the second time at the World Championship in Japan, performing a dance to remember in the third stage of the competition.
Bulgarian couple climbed to the top bringing their total up to 102.09 points.
