Gurmen, Blagoevgrad

The Garmen Municipality is located in southwestern Bulgaria (Blagoevgrad province), in the recesses of the Western Rhodopes. It encompasses parts of the Mesta River valley and the slopes of the Dabrashki part of the Rhodopes. Garmen municipality borders the municipalities of Bansko, Gotse Delchev, Hadzhidimovo, Satovcha and Velingrad. Most of its territory is with mountainous relief, 281,228,000 sq. m are forests fund and 70,854,000 sq. m are agricultural land. Deposits of lignite are found near Baldevo village, and thermal mineral water springs near Ognyanovo village. The climate is transitional Mediterranean influenced by mountainous climate in the highland.
The high nature potential, the combination of varied relief shapes with favorable climate make Gurmen Municipality an attractive place for recreation and tourism. The following villages are of particular interest to tourists: Gurmen - with the impressive remains of the ancient town Nikopolis ad Nestum; Ognyanovo - with its famous curative Ognyanovo mineral baths; Leshten holiday village; Kovachevitsa architecture reserve with the church St. Nicola and the interesting archeological and natural sites near the village; Osikovo - with the longest cave in Dabrash, Manoilovata Doupka cave; and Ribnovo village with its national customs lifestyle and traditions.
