Municipality of Kirkovo is situated in the southeastern "Gyumyurdjinsko-Maglijka" region and occupies an area of 594 sq. km. in the Eastern Rodopi Mountains. It has common borders with the municipalities of Krumovgrad, Momchilgrad, Dzhebel, Zlatograd, while to the south - with the Republic of Greece. The municipality comprises the municipal center - the village of Kirkovo and 46 village councils comprising 73 settlements. The relief varies between plain hilly and mountainous-hilly. Forest Fund covers 33,480 hectares. The coniferous trees occupy 57 % from the forests. There are also reconstructed, sucker and broad-leaved trees. The temperature is favourable for growing mild-thermophilic cultures like early brands of tobacco, maize, sunflower, beet, beans, lucerne, etc. There are 63 water basins; cultural-historical monuments, etc. in region of Kirkovo.
