Monument "Founers of the Bulgarian State"

The monument was built to celebrate the 1300th anniversary of the Bulgarian State, founded in 681. It is situated on the hill of the table-land about Shumen and it is constructed in such a way that it can be looked at either from a distance or from close proximity. The silouette of the monument can be seen from a distance between 20 and 30 kilometres. Thus it is linked with ancient capitals Pliska and Preslav, the cult center Madara and the old Shumen fortress. The monument is built by Bulgarian specialists headed by professor Kroum Damianov.

The monument consists of two semi-opened halls. The first hall represents the pagan period. The statue I of Khan Asparuh. Here he is represented in the moment when he stuck his sword into the ground and said; "Here to be Bulgaria, under this sky, on this land'.

The three mosaics develop the idea of the people's contribution to the history. The first one /on the right side/ represents one victory - the Khan and his soldiers. The second one /on the middle/ - the adoption of Christianity and the third reveals the educational mission of Cyril and Metodious who created the slave alphabet.
